Regional Project Engineer – South

Main Purpose

Responsible for managing the site/contracts engineers to ensure excellence in contract performance in the region from premobilisation preparation, monitoring of site performance and customer satisfaction, whilst ensuring the correct execution of the ground improvement design, whilst achieving exemplary standards in safety, quality, sustainability and efficiency.

Key Accountabilities

  • To lead engineers by supporting them on contractual, technical and safety matters.
  • To coordinate workload between the engineers with the Operations Manager to ensure effective workload is being managed nationally.
  • To coordinate the submission of cost reports and safety reports by engineers in the region each month and on time meeting set deadlines.
  • To regularly meet with the work winning team in the region as required to understand and assist with the planning of projects. To inform the Operations Manager and departments of requirements in preparation for such work.
  • To report to the Regional, Operations and Commercial managers on the performance of projects within the region monthly. To present the reasoning for positive and negative outcomes of the project, and to follow up lessons learnt actions within the team.
  • With the support of the Chief Engineer, assist with the design and drawing preparation as required.
  • Ensure project deliverables are fully understood, through handover meetings with the process team (estimating, design, commercial, procurement, plant and operations).
  • Prepare and collate contract documentation and ensure submission to the customer in advance of the works. This includes the preparation of method statements and risk assessments site specific for the contract. Ensure all approvals are obtained in full prior to mobilisation to site.
  • Prepare effective start-up site documentation for site team and clearly communicate deliverables to the site supervisor. On complex or large projects attend site as required and directed by the Operations Manager.
  • Daily monitor that the works are in accordance with the design, specification, the customer’s deliverables, and our targets. Immediately act on, report, and manage the close out of any non-conformities that may arise.
  • Ensure all site paperwork is being produced comprehensive, neat, and tidy. Review site records on a regular basis to ensure compliance with deliverables and contract. Report and manage the close out of any non-conformities that may arise.
  • Set up and use of company digital platforms for projects.
  • Responsible for recording all contract variations in good time with the customer, ensuring involvement with the commercial department.
  • Prepare and review the financial performance of projects monthly and where applicable revise the project forecast weekly. Be responsible for all contract purchases / costs with justification.
  • Work closely with the whole process team exercising leadership (to include operations, preconstruction, commercial, plant, business development and design), to ensure effective and efficient project delivery.
  • Conduct clear communication and forge relationships with customers to get a clear understanding of their requirements and to ensure customer understands the needs of our business.
  • Attend pre-start meetings as required, addressing commercial, operational and design matters concerning the project.
  • Ensure compliance with business strategy, safety strategy and procedures.
  • Undertake monthly safety tours on our sites to feedback issues and ideas raised by site operatives to management.

Personal Qualities and Experience

The role requires a degree or HNC qualification in a civil engineering related subject, or a candidate studying for a related degree / HNC on a part time basis. Proven experience in ground engineering operations (including large scale projects) required and ground improvement design knowledge would be advantageous. It is preferable that the candidate has or is working towards a recognised qualification (ICE or GeolSoc). Individuals must have a valid CSCS card.

The candidate should be both focussed and thorough and have the gravitas and professional credibility to advise senior management when something needs immediate redress together with the tenacity and drive to ensure that the necessary action is taken. The candidate should have an empowering leadership style, to engage with customers and to get the most from the Southern team. The individual needs to be capable of communicating ideas and concepts effectively to both their own team and external, particularly operational, parties, must have good commercial acumen and a working knowledge of contracts.

Location: The role is based in Camberley, and it is expected that an amount of travel to sites will be required as work demands to start up contracts, to attend customer pre-start meetings, site meetings and visiting regional offices as required.

Line Manager: Reports to the Regional Business Manager.
