Digital Engineer for Northern Region

Main Purpose

Responsible for the support management of digital systems in the business including software and hardware.

To be fully converse in the in-house digital systems and to provide guidance and technical support to the engineers and site teams when required.

To keep up to date with the latest technologies and innovation to promote within the business to make equipment and processes more safe, sustainable and cost effective.

Key Accountabilities

  • To provide guidance and support to the business on in-house data loggers, digital platforms, group applications, Microsoft office software, equipment hardware and external requirements. To fully understand its use, to fault find, to implement effectively into the business and provide feedback to the central digital team.
  • To fully understand and provide support to engineers and the site teams on in-house data loggers fitted on rigs & equipment. To resolve software and hardware issues through rigorous testing and component testing under time constraints. To assist and fit and replace sensors, components and wiring on equipment under guidance from the plant manager or mobile fitter.
  • To fully understand and provide support to engineers and the site teams on external data loggers. To liaise with external suppliers to understand best practice, operator use, problem fixing and upcoming improvements.
  • To visit sites as required nationwide to provide support, repair and maintenance to software and hardware on site equipment.
  • To be familiar with the latest software and hardware in the market to provide solutions and efficiencies into the business. To report new ideas and technologies to management with justification into the benefits and cost.
  • To attend regular meetings with other international business units on progress and new technologies implemented in the business. To report new ideas and technologies to management with justification into the benefits and cost for consideration.
  • To be able to confidently present new projects, progress and feedback to a group of internal employees either in a physical presentation venue or over video conferencing.
  • To participate in the research and development of new software, hardware, equipment and processes in the business. To setup and deliver a roadmap to implement approved new technologies in the business drawing on support from the business or external suppliers as required. This will require regular contact with other group business units.
  • To research and promote new sustainable technologies and solutions in the business to contribute to the business achieving targets.
  • To set up and implement data reporting tools such as Power BI in the business to capture data presentable to internal and external people.
  • Set up and use of company digital platforms for projects when required.
  • To collate and manage mechanical drawings, guidance documents and best practice documents. To liaise with the CAD technician to prepare drawings as required.
  • To prepare and manage project costs to deliver to budget and given timescales. Understand the best value technology to bring into the business which is reliable, sustainable and effective.
  • Work closely with the whole process team on digital projects exercising leadership to ensure effective and efficient project delivery.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Operations Manager and Plant Manager to update the business on progress and status with digital systems within the business.
  • To contribute to BIM requirements within the business as required.
  • Ensure compliance with business strategy, safety strategy and procedures.

Personal Qualities and Experience

The role requires a degree or HNC qualification in an electrical/mechanical engineering related subject, or a candidate studying for a related degree / HNC on a part time basis. Proven experience in ground engineering equipment knowledge would be advantageous. It is preferable that the candidate has or is working towards a recognised qualification. Individuals must have a valid CSCS card (can be put through).

The candidate should have good experience with Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, Projects, Powerpoint) and Power BI.

The candidate should be both focussed and thorough and have the gravitas and professional credibility to advise senior management when something needs immediate redress together with the tenacity and drive to ensure that the necessary action is taken. The candidate should have an empowering leadership style, to engage with engineers, site teams and management. The individual needs to be capable of communicating ideas and concepts effectively to management, engineers and the site team.

Location: The role is based in Burscough, and it is expected that an amount of travel to sites will be required as work demands. Occasional visits to other international Business Units may be required.

Line Manager: Reports to the Operations Manager
