Commercial Manager

Main Purpose

To lead and efficiently manage the commercial function of the business, identifying risks and exploiting opportunities. To support and manage the development and implementation of a strategy to increase the commercial performance of the business against agreed targets. To lead not only all the commercial function, but also all processes relating to the commercial function.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that the commercial performance of all projects is monitored and reported, and business objectives are achieved.
  • Protect the company’s commercial position at all times, including evaluation, avoidance and / or mitigation of any potential commercial risks on projects
  • Manage and lead the commercial/surveying function, ensuring correct operation of the Company’s processes.
  • Represent the Company in contract negotiations and meetings, ensuring that favourable terms and outcomes are obtained.
  • Maintain good working relationships with other stakeholders and be a key member of the senior management team.
  • To be responsible for the financial control and payment of each sub-contractor, and to ensure that submissions for payments are received and evaluated. Maintain proper control and substantiation of variations between the sub-contractor and Vibro Menard.
  • To compile and submit valuations at the minimum intervals permitted under the contract-sub contract, ensuring that these are maximised, and that timely payment is received, to the benefit of the Company’s cash flow.
  • To provide guidance and support during the estimating process on such issues as contract conditions
  • To provide support to the contract engineers in the collation of data for application purposes and to ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.
  • Provide support to the contract’s engineers with regards to the management of costs.
  • Manage our Risk and Opportunity register with regards to commercial/contractual issues.
  • Manage our ethics and compliance process ensuring group guidelines are followed.
  • Lead the negotiations of insurance renewables.
  • To exercise the skills of measurement and valuation to maximise value and minimise cost within the terms of the contract and sub-contracts applicable to each project.

Personal Qualities and Experience

The individual will have appropriate qualifications, and professional membership of a professional body is desirable. The individual will hold a valid CSCS card.

Significant commercial and management experience within the construction and piling industry. A strong understanding of technical piling issues is preferred.

The role requires a capable person-manager, able to develop and coach teams, who can address HR issues promptly and robustly. The individual will be both focussed and thorough and have the gravitas and professional credibility to advise senior management when something needs immediate redress together with the tenacity and drive to ensure that the necessary action is taken.

The individual needs to be capable of communicating ideas and concepts effectively to both their own team and externally. The role requires sound presentational skills and the capability to originate and develop new and innovative processes across the company.

The individual needs to be able to set, deliver and measure clear targets, must have a strong commercial acumen and a good working knowledge of contracts.
