Apprentice Civils Technician

Main Purpose

Responsible for undertaking various engineering tasks assigned by the business within the design, work winning and operational departments under the supervision of the department lead.

Tasks should be carried out, whilst achieving excellence in safety, quality, sustainability and efficiency.

Key Accountabilities

  • The individual will be required to develop their skills within various department which will include:
  • Develop an understanding of the company safety rules and strategy, including
    • Carrying out safety site visits with a senior manager
    • Attending regular safety training
  • Assessing site investigations and preparing design calculations
  • Preparing cost estimates and tendering documentation
  • Assessing the risks and opportunities on a tender proposal
  • Preparation of documentation for operational deliver: including risk assessments, method statements and quality plans
  • Monitoring contract performance through cost plans, quality control (testing and instrumentation) and programme schedules
  • Report on contract non-conformities and manage their close out
  • Develop an understanding of the plant capabilities
  • Carry out 2D CAD drawings
  • Have a grasp of the business financial model
  • Develop presentation skills using tools such as Power Point
  • Develop a working knowledge of Microsoft packages, in-house applications, including those developed by Menard.
  • Ensure compliance with business strategy and procedures
  • Ensure a relentless focus on safety – WORKSAFE HOMESAFE

Personal Qualities and Experience

Individuals must be working towards a recognised qualification (NVQ in Civils or related engineering) and have a valid CSCS card.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners and delivery team members under time pressure.

Location: The role is based in either Burscough (Lancashire) or Camberley (Surrey).

Line Manager: Reports to designate Line Manager.
